# Chillwari

> Free travel expense splitter for groups. Hand over the receipt and say who had what in your own words — Chillwari reads the items and drafts each person's share for you to check before it is saved. Friends join by link with no account.

Chillwari turns what a group already knows about its spending into expenses and a settlement it can read: an amount just paid, a receipt plus who bought what, a menu the group is ordering from, or a note recalling the day. Every assisted result is a draft the user reviews and corrects before it enters the shared ledger.

## How it works

1. One person creates a trip and shares a link or join code.
2. Friends open it and pick a name. No account, nothing to install.
3. Expenses go in whichever way suits the moment:
   - **Type an amount and save.** Payer, participants, split, currency and category all carry sensible defaults, so a simple expense needs almost no decisions.
   - **Receipteller — a receipt and a sentence.** Photograph the receipt and describe the split the way you would say it aloud: "Cozy had the cola, the beers are mine and Chillbae's, share the rest." Receipteller extracts the items, matches your description against them (including unfamiliar or abbreviated names), asks which item you meant when your words fit more than one, and drafts each person's share. Anything you do not mention is shared among the people you picked.
   - **Receipteller — a written note.** Write the day down in a few lines and it becomes one expense draft per line, with amounts, dates, currencies and participants filled in.
   - **Receipteller — screenshots.** Booking confirmations become expenses with amounts, dates and destinations, and feed booking-coherence checks that flag nights that do not line up. Transit-card and wallet histories become one expense per journey.
   - **Pic'n Pick — a menu.** Photograph a menu, get a translated list the group orders from, each person picking their own dishes. Closing the session writes those picks up as one split expense.
4. Every assisted result opens as a review: check the items, the people and the amounts, correct anything wrong, then save. Extraction can fail or need clarification; nothing lands in the ledger unreviewed.
5. Settle up. Expenses and balances keep their own currency, partial repayments are recorded as they happen, and paying in another currency uses an explicit rate rather than discarding what was actually owed.

## Currency handling

Expenses and debts retain the currency they were incurred in. A group that spent ¥45,000 in Japan and NT$12,000 in Taiwan sees both, separately, rather than one converted total. Settlement can still use conversion rates and can offset debts across currencies — the point is that the underlying obligations and the payments made against them stay intact and explainable, not that the app never converts anything.

## Pricing

Core expense splitting is free, and there will never be ads. Receipteller and Pic'n Pick are free today too, but as the language-model costs behind them grow they may become paid. No price, quota, plan or date has been decided. Supporting the project through the voluntary checkout unlocks nothing; it is support, not a purchase.

## Technical details

- A server-rendered web app; the iOS app is a shell around the same interface. Nothing to install to use it in a browser.
- English, Traditional Chinese (繁體中文) and Japanese (日本語). The brand is 邱瓦利 in Chinese and チルワリ in Japanese.
- 100+ currencies, with the likely ones surfaced first per destination.
- No account required to join a trip; optional Google or Apple sign-in carries your trips between devices.
- Roles are Admin, Member and Viewer; expense editing is authorized per action.
- Receipteller and Pic'n Pick sit behind feature flags whose defaults depend on a configured language-model provider, so a given deployment may not have them enabled.
